Dr. Marco Jessen from the research group of Dr. Björn von Eyss, together with Prof. Dr. Florian Meier-Rosar from Jena University Hospital (UKJ), has received a funding for the research project “Identifying critical and actionable oncogenic signaling pathways incholangiocarcinoma ” by the Life "Connect" Initiative from the Friedrich Schiller University Jena (FSU).
Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a form of liver cancer characterized by a poor prognosis and a lack of effective molecular targets. Here, the research team aims to break new ground by identifying oncogenic signaling pathways through the combination of kinome-wide genetic screening (Jessen) with perturbation-based phosphoproteomics (Meier-Rosar). If successful, the project will establish a blueprint method to identify and validate molecular vulnerabilities in tumor organoid models that could find broad application beyond CCA.
The LIFE “Connect” funds enable the development of scientific projects that have the potential for successful application for third-party funding. New cooperations between researchers of different groups, institutes and disciplines shall be established to stimulate top-level research.
