FLI Postdoc Circle Invites - Steffen Pockes

In the FLI Postdoc Circle Prof. Pockes from the University of Regensburg will speak about "New therapeutic approaches for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias" on September 4 at 3pm at the Leibniz Institute on Aging - Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI).

In his talk titled “New therapeutic approaches for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias”, Prof. Pockes will give insights into his work on preclinical drug development in the field of neurodegenerative diseases.

His research group is focused on the exploration of innovative drugs targeting the enzyme caspase-2 and orphan GPCRs such as GPR3, which are associated with neuronal degeneration and cognitive decline. These studies present a valuable complement to the expertise in aging research and modeling of age-related diseases at the FLI, which opens up great opportunities regarding the functional validation of new targets, the application of age-relevant in vivo models and the translation of preclinical results towards clinical relevance – all contributing substantially to the development of targeted therapies against dementia.

Prof. Pockes was honored with the Innovation Award Medicinal Chemistry in 2022, the DFG Heisenberg Professorship in 2024, and his research has been published in several top-ranked journals.
