Cell Signaling and Proteomics of Aging

Prof. Dr. Ivan Matić

We aim to understand the molecular mechanisms of the DNA damage response, neurodegeneration and aging by elucidating the role of PARP1 signaling in these biological processes.

Our research combines biochemistry, proteomics, chemical biology, protein engineering and cell biology to uncover the fundamental principles governing PARP1-dependent ADP-ribosylation, a widespread yet technically challenging post-translational modification. Our current work builds on our pioneering discovery of serine ADP-ribosylation as a histone modification and its development into a foundational technology that enables next-generation tools for studying ADP-ribosylation signaling.
