In memory of Prof. Dr. Peter Schuster

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Prof. Dr. Peter Schuster, who died at the age of 85.

Peter Schuster was the founding director of the Institute for Molecular Biotechnology (IMB) in Jena, which later became the the Leibniz Institute on Aging – Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI), and he headed the institute from 1992 to 1995.

From 1992 to 1997, he also served as head of the “Molecular Evolutionary Biology” department at the IMB.

As an internationally renowned theoretical chemist and pioneer in molecular evolutionary research, he played a decisive role in shaping the scientific development of the institute during its early stages.

The FLI will honor the memory of Prof. Dr. Peter Schuster. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family and friends.
