Metabolic rewiring of the intestinal epithelium in colorectal cancer

Abstract:

The intestinal epithelium is the most regenerative tissue in the human body and an essential interface between the microbial ecosystem and the underlying mucosa.
The unfolded protein response of the endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria is a central regulator of cellular physiology, and defects in organelle stress regulation
in the epithelium contribute to chronic inflammatory and malignant disorders in the intestine. In this presentation, we will discuss the role of the ER stress mediator ATF6
in reprogramming intestinal epithelial metabolism toward long‑chain fatty acid synthesis, thereby fostering dysbiosis and colorectal cancer.
