In Search of Clever Heads: Career at FLI

Currently, there are around 350 employees from over 40 nations working at the FLI – clever heads in the fields of research and administration. We always need excellent personnel to be able to conduct excellent research. That’s why it is of the utmost importance to us to attract excellent senior researchers to the FLI and integrate junior researchers in our outstanding programs of promoting young scientific talents – far beyond the borders of Germany.  In addition, our back office is staffed with top qualified and experienced employees, who are keen on optimizing our administrative infrastructure and creating our processes as efficient as possible.

As a member of the Leibniz Association the FLI follows the science focused equalization standards. The FLI implemented these standards into the institutional and personnel management very successfully. In 2013 we have been paid tribute for this achievement by receiving the TEQ Award.

The career guidelines of the Leibniz Association are our foundation for promoting our young academics. We are implementing those guidelines by managing our own Graduate School for PhD students and by conducting a postdoc network.

Moreover, our institute is part of the EURAXESS Services Network across Europe. We provide free and personalized assistance on the challenges faced by international researchers and their families when relocating.

For us the focus is on the human being – in science as well as in human resources management. Along with promoting young academics the FLI as an employer also concentrates on Equal Opportunity topics and Work-Life-Balance.

The FLI provides an ideal research environment for scientists. Equipped with up-to-date laboratories and state-of-the-art core facilities, with an international work environment, with an open-minded and friendly work atmosphere and supported by an efficient administration, the FLI has built the best possible conditions for the excellent research underpinning our international reputation.

The city Jena is an attractive place for living and working. It is a small but lively city located at the river Saale with approx. 100,000 inhabitants and 25,000 students among them. The FLI is located at the Beutenberg Campus, a science and research site in Jena where several renowned research institutes are based. You can get to know Jena better by visiting this website.
