FLI Celebrates 25th Anniversary

News

On August 31, 2017, the FLI celebrated its 25th anniversary with honorable guests and speakers.

In 1992, the FLI was re-founded with a new name as "Institute for Molecular Biotechnology (IMB)" continuing the long research history of ZIMET in GDR-times. It became the first Leibniz Institute in whole Thuringia and, since then, the IMB and later FLI have had the legal status of a registered association.

This is why on August 31st, 2017, we celebrated our 25th anniversary of after-reunification-research at Beutenberg with a little celebration ceremony and a summer party for all FLI employees and their families.

After a musical opening by the "Jazzfriends Jena" and a welcome by Dr. Daniele Barthel - Administrative Director at FLI - greetings were given by Wolfgang Tiefensee, Thuringian Minister of Economy, Science and Digital Society, Burkhard Zinner, Head of FLI's Board of Trustees, Dr. Albrecht Schröter, Lord Mayor of the City of Jena, Prof. Dr. Dagmar Schipanski, Former Thuringian Minister of Science, Research and Arts, and Prof. Dr. Walter Rosenthal, President of Friedrich Schiller University. A short film "25 years" was followed by speeches of Prof. Dr. Peter Schuster, founding director of IMB/FLI, Prof. Dr. Peter Herrlich, FLI's Scientific Director 2003-2012, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Ernst Th. Rietschel, former President of the Leibniz Association, and Dr. Daniele Barthel.

The summer party afterwards was meant to thank all employees for their effort, creativity and service during the last 25 years.
